A Holistic Approach to Health

We understand that oral health is intricately linked to your body's overall health. Years of scientific research has revealed a profound connection between the health of your mouth and the well-being of your entire body. A vibrant smile is not just a sign of good oral hygiene; it's a reflection of your overall health.

Beyond Beautiful Smiles

The Benefits of Oral Health

Heart Health

A healthy mouth contributes to a healthy heart. Research has shown that the bacteria responsible for gum disease can find its way into the bloodstream, potentially leading to cardiovascular issues. By maintaining excellent oral hygiene, you're taking a proactive step in supporting your heart health.

Respiratory Wellness

Oral health is also linked to the health of your respiratory system. Poor oral hygiene can contribute to respiratory infections, as harmful bacteria can be inhaled into the lungs. Regular dental care helps keep your entire respiratory system in top shape.

Diabetes Management

For those with diabetes, maintaining good oral health is crucial. Gum disease can make it more challenging to control blood sugar levels. By prioritizing your oral health, you're not only caring for your teeth but also supporting your diabetes management.

Pregnancy Health

Pregnant women should pay special attention to their oral health. Poor oral hygiene and unhealthy oral bacteria has been associated with premature birth, low birth weight, and stillborn babies. Taking care of your oral health is a vital component of a healthy pregnancy. If you are planning on starting a family, be sure to make a dental appointment to make sure your gums and teeth are healthy. This will help set both you and your baby up for a successful pregnancy.

BRAIN HEALTH

There have been several studies discussing the interconnection between oral health and brain health. These studies indicate that individuals with gum disease are at an increased risk for developing neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease. Research shows that the same bad oral bacteria present in people with gum disease is also found in the brains of people with Alzheimer’s disease. It is crucial to practice proper oral hygiene to eliminate bad oral bacteria and to support brain health.

cancers

Poor oral health increases an individual's risk of developing cancer of the lungs, mouth, esophagus, breasts, pancreas, colon, and more. For those currently undergoing cancer treatments, poor oral health can delay their treatment and prolong the process. By prioritizing your oral health, you are also prioritizing your overall health and well-being.

Everyone has oral bacteria. There are more than 700 varieties of oral bacteria and most of them are good for our health, as the healthy bacteria promote good immune system function and digestion. However, roughly a dozen oral bacteria have been identified as harmful to our health. These bad bacteria don’t just stay in your gums. Rather, these bad bacteria enter our body through swollen and leaky gums. It is important for you to know if you have bad oral bacteria so you can take the necessary steps to get rid of them if they are indeed present. We are here to help and guide you toward the healthiest mouth possible

During hygiene visits at 1101 Dental we screen our patients for unhealthy oral bacteria. To do this, we take a sample of plaque from just underneath the gums and then focus it on a microscope slide to reveal the various shapes of bacteria present. The microscope allows us to visualize the bacteria in real-time, allowing us the ability to diagnose and provide treatment as needed to help shift our patient’s gums to a healthier state.
We feel passionate about oral bacteria and know by evaluating it we can give tips and suggestions on how to shift your biome into a healthier state. A balanced biome is necessary in order to achieve healthy, light pink, & tight gums that do not bleed.
There have been numerous clinical studies performed over the last 30 years on oral bacteria that identity the harmful effects of these bad bugs in our gums & mouth.  The studies show that oral pathogens have been linked to increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, diabetes, cancers (lung, esophageal, breast, pancreatic, oral, colon, and more), pregnancies resulting in premature births or stillbirths. In patients with bleeding gums, their risk factors for these conditions go up.

Halitosis

Here at 1101 Dental, we have helped many patients address bad breath. Bad breath (aka halitosis) is most often caused by too many bad bugs in the mouth and gums. Until the oral bacteria gets shifted to a healthier state, patients will struggle with the freshness of their breath. It is important to seek treatment as soon as possible for bad breath to address their oral bacteria and shift it towards health. Oftentimes bad breath results from an overpopulation of harmful bacteria present for your immune system to combat on its own. Because of this, it is often necessary for us to prescribe antibacterial and antimicrobial products to help reduce the amount of bad bacteria present. We will also recommend tips to incorporate into your daily routine to ensure the high loads of bad bacteria don’t creep back. We are very excited to share that we have a high success rate in treating halitosis. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We are happy to help!
